The Toshiba Satellite notebookreturns to our test lab for a second outing withthe same lovelylooking stylish design but with aslightly different body.In terms of primary specs theres little to separatethe A100 and the older M100 both utilize the IntelCore 2 Duo 7200 2.0 GHz processor for theirmultitasking needs along with 1GB of RAM to keepeverything nice and speedy. Both also bear the samesleeklooking Copper Sunlight cover silver and blackfinish as well as the curved corners. However the A100 sports slightly beefier graphicswith a Mobility Radeon X1600 160GB of HDD and alarge 15.4widescreen glossy display. As anotebooks body tends to match the samedimensions of its display the A100 has a larger andwider body compared to the M100. Once you open it up the difference in layoutbetween the two notebooks is noticeably quitestark.With the extra width Toshiba has opted toplace the standard media shortcut keys on the leftside of the notebook keypad instead of on the top.The media player and web browser applicationsshare the same button responding to which sidethe button is pressed.Another interesting design layout that Toshiba hasdone with the Satellite A100 is the dual modetouchpad which sports imprinted shortcut icons.Under normal usage the shortcut icons do not doanything.When the shortcuts icon is pressedhowever the touchpad becomes backlit andswitches to shortcuts key mode where theimprinted shortcut icons previously inaccessible arenow available. Besides being able to adjust thevolume and open the shortcut icons you can alsocustomize three application shortcut keys of yourown. The space for the top dashboard is reserved forthe A100s Harmon/Kardon speakers which beltsout some above average sound qualit ...
