Now it wants a share of the advertisingpie.Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc.yesterday disclosed a datasharingagreement with Nielsen Co. designed toattract advertising revenue and bring lifeback to sluggish PlayStation 3 sales.Dave Karraker spokesman for Sony saidNielsen will have access to data from thePlayStation 3 systems as well as thePlayStation Network which enables users toplay against one another online. The datawill allow measurement of gamers' behaviorpatterns the effectiveness of advertisementsin games and some basic demographicinformation such as the user's age."This gives us the measurement statistics that we need to go out andsell advertising" he said.Although the US video game market was estimated to be worth$9.03 billion in 2006 by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP the amount ofmoney spent by advertisers in video games was only $80 million inthe same year because advertisers would not spend large amounts inthe absence of sophisticated data on gamers.
