Success Story The Gemeentekrediet is one of Belgiums major banking institutions. It provides two thirds of all loan facilities to the public sector and over 90% of loan facilities to the Belgian local government. The bank numbers somewhat less than 4200 employees and its network of over 1200 independent agents employs another 2000 people. In 1996 the Gemeentekrediet merged with Crédit Local de France, thus creating the Dexia gro u p . With a net income of almost 22 billion Belgian francs, Dexia ranks amongst Euro p e s 25 leading banks. SAP and the Gemeentekrediet: a long tradition The co-operation of the Gemeentekrediet and SAP goes back a long time. The bank has already been using SAP since 1989 for internal business support. In 1990, it s t a rted implementing R/2 for "Purchasing", in 1991 for "Accounts Payable", in 1992 for the modules "Accounts Receivable" and "Real Estate" (in-house development) and finally also "Materials Management" was implemented.         That was in 1995. "It was clearly the users themselves who chose to continue working with SAP, " says Dirk Van Orshoven, Unit Manager at the G e m e e n t e k re d i e t . Human Resources Management In the beginning of 1996, the Gemeentekrediet decided to also implement the module Human Resourc e s Management. It selected Argus Integrated Solutions as a partner for the execution and for the provision of the n e c e s s a ry system support. In June 1996 the implementation           of the module took a start and the system went live in Febru a ry 1997. The result is a coherent and integrated system - without any redundant data or administration - that embraces the total Human R e s o u rces Management: administration, planning, training     and re c ruitment.
