Badly.Nintendo's 11thhour decision to transform "Princess" from the Gamecube's proverbial cabooseinto the Wii's premiere launch title means the Wiimote controls have been tacked on. During an earlysequence involving a fishing rod and a hungry cat it shows. In a nutshell the imprecise fishing controls_ likely fine on the Gamecube version _ are a mess creating a frustrating low for a surprisingly blandopening chapter.Fortunately "Princess" is wellequipped to handle such a letdown. Link's latest adventure isroughly twice as long as any previous 3D "Zelda" game and that's only if you fly from A to B. Doingall there is to do doubles the adventure yet again making that first chapter a distant memory. Nintendohas (wisely) populated "Princess" with more enemies per square foot than perhaps the previous threegames combined. That and a continuous stream of secrets and surprises makes traversing Hyrule Fielda joy rather than a chore.Fans who have managed to avoid spoilers this long will find none here but once 1/8insert hugeplot twist3/8 happens fairly early on "Princess" kicks into high gear unraveling a tale that's surprisinglymature but never out of step with the series' whimsical style. Familiarity _ by boomerangs horse orunderwater dungeon _ runs wild but Nintendo scrambles that familiarity in fun new ways while addingits share of fresh items enemies and allies to the legacy. Fencesitters might wish for more freshnessthan is given but fanatics will reap a continuous stream of rewards as they play.It comes down ...
