OMG is the source of the computing industrys modeling specifications; our MetaObject Facility (MOF) and XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) establish the foundation needed to integrate modeling with the downstream development steps coding deployment and maintenance. Following an explanation of how these foundation specifications bridge the gap from modeling to implementation the tutorial covers UML basics class diagrams components and several key behavioral diagrams plus advances in UML 2.0. This foundation enables the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) presented in the next segment. The final portion of the tutorial surveys CORBA middleware the Object Management Architecture and OMG standards work in the vertical domains.1300 1700 Query/View/Transformation (QVT) TutorialThis tutorial will introduce one of the most exciting standards that lay at the heart of MDA. It will be a handson experience where attendees will learn to define their own transformations using the QVT Core language. Model Driven Architecture is an emerging philosophy of developing Systems. MDA uses models to understand design construct deploy maintain and modify systems. Each model describes the system from a certain viewpoint. A viewpoint can be of any nature (conceptual functional technical etc.) and describing a certain aspect of the system (behavior structure implementation performance etc.). The different models of one system are related to each other via transformations. The transformations take care of the consistency across the different viewpoints allowing both high quality and high productivity in system construction.QVT is the soontobereleased OMG sta ...
